A Man Like Us
“Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.” (James 5:17, ESV)
If you’ve ever thought your prayers are too small to matter, James drops a name in front of you. Elijah. The prophet who prayed and the sky obeyed.
And watch how James introduces him. Not “Elijah the superhero.” Not “Elijah the exception.” A man with a nature like ours. Same fears. Same bad days. Same tired heart you carried into this morning.
The power was never in the man. It was in the God he prayed to. And that God has not changed. Same God. Same ear. Same you, kneeling in an ordinary kitchen.
You don’t need bigger words or a stronger track record. You need the God who was already listening to a man just like you.
So pray the ordinary prayer. The one that feels too plain to bother heaven with. Heaven has never once measured your prayer by its size.
Today: Pray one plain, honest prayer, the kind you’d be tempted to think doesn’t count. It counts.
