This is the promise the whole passage has been driving toward. You take one step, and you find He was already moving toward you.
“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” (James 4:8, ESV)
Jesus told a story about it. A son takes his father’s money, walks away, and burns through all of it. He ends up in a pig pen, so hungry he eyes the pig food. And he decides to go home. Not proud. Just desperate. He even rehearses a speech. Make me a servant.
But watch the father. While the son was still a long way off, the father saw him. Which means the father was watching the road. And he ran. In that world a grown man did not run. He ran anyway. He did not wait at the door with his arms crossed. He closed the distance himself.
That is your God. You take one step home and find He has been running toward you the whole time.
He is closer than you think.
Today: Take the one step. Confess the one thing you have been hiding, and come home. He is already on the road.
