Know Who to Call
“Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him.” (James 5:14, ESV)
Notice who moves first. The sick man calls. He picks up the phone. That’s the hard part for most of us. We’ll do almost anything before we’ll ask.
Somewhere we were taught that the strong Christian is the one who needs no one. That’s a lie. Maturity was never about needing nobody. Maturity is knowing who to call.
And James doesn’t just say “call somebody.” He says call the elders. Why them? Because they’re the people the church has already tested and pointed to. Safe people, with names you can trust. Not the smartest person in the room. The safest one. The kind of person you can hand your worst to and walk away closer to Jesus, not more ashamed.
You don’t have to gamble at 2am on who can hold your story. The church already did that work for you.
