“Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.” (James 5:13, ESV)
We are the most connected people who have ever lived, and somehow the loneliest. Five hundred friends on a screen, and no one to call at two in the morning. We pull into the garage, lower the door, and never once meet the people living ten feet away.
And without noticing, we did the same thing to our faith. Just me, Jesus, and my earbuds.
Then James, closing his letter, sets down one small word, and he says it three times. Among. “Is anyone among you…” It isn’t a command. It’s a location. Before he tells you to do a single thing, he tells you where you already stand: in the middle of a people.
You were never saved into a room by yourself. The day you came to Christ you were handed a Father, and a family. You stopped being an only child.
Following Jesus was never a me-word. It has always been a we-word.
Today: Where have you been trying to walk with Jesus alone? Name one place, and tell Him you’re done being an only child.
