“See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains.” — James 5:7 (ESV)
James points at a farmer. He puts a seed in the ground and then does the hardest thing in the world. He waits. He cannot rush the rain or argue the sun into the sky. He just stays, because he knows what is coming.
Picture Simeon. An old man who had been promised he would not die until he saw the Messiah. Year after year in the temple, the same quiet ache — not yet, not today — until one ordinary morning a poor couple walked in with a baby. He took that child in his arms and said, now, Lord, let your servant go in peace.
He never got a timeline. He got a Person. He was never once sure of the day. He was only ever sure of the promise.
A steady heart is not sure of the timing. It is sure of the ending. And notice what James slips in — do not grumble against one another. Tired waiters get short with each other. Steady hearts wait together.
Today: Name the thing you are tired of waiting on. Bring it to God as a promise, not a problem. And do not take the waiting out on the person next to you.
