“Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out.” — James 5:4 (ESV)
It would be easy to make open hands mean “feel a little less attached to your stuff.” Drop something extra in the plate. Loosen up. Nobody gets convicted.
But read the verse again. Wages kept back by fraud, crying out to God. This is not God asking comfortable people to be a little nicer. This is God, furious, on behalf of people who got robbed.
So open hands cannot only mean I loosened up on the inside. If my hand is open to God but closed to the person I underpaid or overlooked, I have missed the whole thing. Generosity stacked on top of injustice is not generosity. It is a cover charge.
You are a child of the God who hears the ones no one else hears. That is who you are before it is anything you do. And it changes how you make it, not just how you give it.
Today: Ask one honest question. Is there a wrong I can make right — a debt, an apology, a person I owe? Take the first step toward it.
