“You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.” — James 5:8 (ESV)

Yesterday we came to the next-to-last stop in James. After nearly five chapters on your hands and your mouth, he turns and points at the horizon. The Lord is coming.

And he puts two people in front of that one day. The rich, storing up against a day they don’t believe is on its way. The waiting church, leaning toward a day they can’t wait to see. Same door. Same coming. Two completely different ways of standing in front of it.

That is the whole thing. The coming of the King doesn’t just change your someday. It changes your Thursday.

So the question was never whether He is coming. James settles that. The question is which way you are facing.

Today: Before the week gets loud, answer one question honestly. Which way am I facing right now — braced against the day, or leaning toward it?
